Welcome to Burgess Hill Bowls Club Website...we hope you enjoy your visit and find the information both interesting and useful.

Burgess Hill Bowls Club is the only Lawn Bowls Club in Burgess Hill and is tucked away in West Hill Drive, just off Royal George Road.

The club has over one hundred playing and social members and has six rinks and a Modern licensed clubhouse, used on match days and for social events.

Our playing season begins in late April and runs through the summer months to the middle of September. The majority of our fixtures throughout the season are friendly matches with other clubs in the area. These are a relaxed and easy way to both learn, improve and play bowls. For those wishing to play in a more competitive arena the club enters teams in two leagues as well as players in both National and County competitions.

We play mixed matches as well as separate men's and ladies matches. The club also run their own in-house knockout competitions throughout the season, concluding in a Finals day on the first Sunday in September every year.

A Club night is held every Friday evening during the season, weather permitting. Members are simply invited to turn up on the night and are then organised into teams. These nights are viewed as an important part of our club activities, helping new bowlers to integrate and also maintaining a friendly atmosphere in the club.

Club Finals Day by Joan Higham on Thursday 25th September 2008 (Comment on this news item.)
After the previous miserable few weeks we were blessed with a rainfree day for our Club Finals.
The Ladies Championship was between Angela O'donnell and Joan Higham and a very close fought game, with Joan eventually taking the game at 21 to 16.
The Mens Championship was between Brian Howson and Norman Williams with Brian winning 21 to 10.
Brian was in action again later in the morning in the Mens Two Wood but came second this time to Mick Christian 14 to 7
The Mixed Veterans between Jim Wakefield and Joan Higham was played the previous day because of a fixture pile up and was
won by Joan 104 to 90.
However in Joans first match of the day on Finals day she lost in the Mixed Oldland Final to Ronnie Paulsen 21 to 13.
Ronnie was in action again in the Mixed Handicap winning his second final of the day beating Tom Palmer 22 to 9.
The Married Pairs saw Joan and Brian Howson go down to Joan and Fred Higham 22 to 13.
Karen Myles took the Centenary Cup played in three sets of 7 ends beating Alan Parr in the Final.
Alan was on the losing side again in a very close Drawn Pairs Final. Pairing up with Val Powell they eventually went down 23 to 19 to Geoff Plank and Malcolm Mackenzie, after being all square on the 19th end.
However, for Alan it was third time lucky, as in his third final of the day he, together with John Ferris and Brian Ashton lifted the Drawn Triples trophy beating Mark Gill, Hazel Hill and Walter Roberston 20 to 15.
The closest game of the day was the Ladies Two Woods between Jane Mackenzie and Jean Mason. After 21 ends it was drawn at 15 all and on the extra end Jane was holding two shots. However, Jean drew shot with the very last wood to win the match.
A very enjoyable day....well done to the winners and commiserations to the we won't say losers just the 'unsuccessful'

Candlelight Match by Joan Higham on Sunday 24th August 2008 (Comment on this news item.)
Candlelight Match held on Friday 22nd August.

The weather was kind to us, with a fun atmosphere ending with a very welcome hotdog and a drink. A very successful evening was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. However, the object of the night, organised by Malcolm Mackenzie was to raise funds for St Peters and St James Hospice, and, what a lot we raised.
In a evening, when almost every player had to pay the obligatory 'fine' or 'fines', for having used torches- illegal! knocking over jamjars - Heath & Safety hazard! or committing various other 'offences'. This money , together with money from a raffle and auction on the night resulted in a fantastic final total of over £500.00 for the Hospice.
Well done to everyone
